Tom Paley and Jailbird Singers

Tom Paley
Dear Mr Paley,

For some hours ago I did not know anything about you. I saw your name at a record from 1964. Now I am trying to get info about you. I just watched Sporting Life Blues on Youtube. You have a great feeling for gitarrplaying. And this video shows such a nice group of people, it sounds, in my ears, something between irish and swedish folkmusic - a little bit like...music from Dalarna and Cork on the same time. I see that you have visit London this year. And also Jazzå - thats a swedish club. So you speak swedish - hej på dej!

"Legenden Tom Paley gästade festivalen!"
A legend. Now I become a little bit nervous. I have to learn quick from Wikipedia more about you. Aha, you once played with Woody Guthrie and your first band was New Lost City Ramblers. Aha. And you have lived a long life with Old-time music. Aha. And you just released a new record, Beware Young Ladies. Sorry, Tom, that advise I cant take, even if I was a young lady myself. Maby you whant em all for yourself! But I am looking forward to hear your record.

Jailbird Singers
Anyhow, my question is about a swedish countrygroup, Jailbird Singers. They recorded their only album in a prison in Stockholm, Långholmens fängelse, 1964. On the backsidetext of the album "Tjuvballader och Barnatro" - I read that Tom Paley was a friend with the swedish troubadour Cornelis Wreeswijk, and that Tom Paley assisted the recording and also played banjo and bluesgitarr at the record. What a brilljant banjo he played! And this banjo is so sad. And this - what a speed! So my question is: Is that you, Tom Paley, playing that fantastic banjo?

If so - besides all the BRAVO! from my heart - maby you have some memories from that event with Jailbird Singers. I shuld be very glad because I am trying to find info about Tony Granqvist, the leader of Jailbird Singers. In my oppinion he is the best swedish religious rock och folksingers from that time. Maby from all time. His life was short and sad and full of love.

Maby I can interviu you some day about all this? How about tomorrow?

Best Regards and Merry Christmas!

Hej Gotiska klubben.
