Rodwulf = hrod + wulf ("renown" + "wolf")
Rodwulf (ref) was a Scandinavian chieftain or king who despise his own country and joined Teodoric, the king of the Ostrogoths in Ravenna (ref). Roduulf is described by Jordanes in Getica as a king from Ranrike. (Getica § 25)
The location of his country, Ranrike (ref), is based on similarity of names - Ranii and Ran, the God of the See - and Rodwulf is therefore supposed to have come from the province of Bohuslän (ref) in former part of eastern Norway, today the western part Sweden, which traditionally is named Ranrike.
The Raniis is described by Jordanes as "stronger and more unconcerned (cooler) than the germans, and they use to figth withe the fury of a vild animal"
"Rodwulf was far from the only warrior to have left Scandinavia to join the Goths. From this time there is plenty of Roman gold that has been found in Sweden. Moreover, after the Ostrogothic defeat a large number of surviving Ostrogoths were allowed to return home. Many are said to have returned to Scandinavia." wiki
